Follow the Steps Below to Quickly Resolve Nuisance Alarming
Step 1: Identify the Triggering Alarm
In an interconnected group, one alarm detects the issue first, and then signals to all the others.
You can easily identify the triggering alarm by:
A) It activates first before the others.
B) It will be flashing a red light and sounding. The other alarms will sound but will not flash red.
C) If all alarms are going off together:
Press the silence button once on the remote control (or press the centre surface of any alarm).
All alarms should stop except for the one detecting the issue.
Press the silence button a second time and all alarms will become silenced for a 10 minute duration (hush mode).
Hush mode is indicated by a red light which blinks on the alarm every 6 seconds.
Step 2: Power Down the Alarm (If Required)
To completely deactivate an alarm:
Press and hold the centre surface for 5+ seconds until you hear a double beep.
Important: The alarm cannot be powered down while in hush mode.
Step 3: Clean the Alarm
Most nuisance alarms are caused by ultra fine dust build-up inside the smoke sensing chamber.
Cleaning Steps:
Remove the alarm from the ceiling.
Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth, then dry with a lint free cloth.
Use a vacuum to suction the exterior vent which runs around the perimeter / circumference of the alarm.
Take care not to accidentally introduce dust into the smoke alarm whilst cleaning it.
Power on, test the alarm(s) and re-install.
Why It's Important to Keep Your Photoelectric Smoke Alarm Clean
Photoelectric smoke alarms use a tiny beam of light inside a smoke sensing chamber. When smoke enters the chamber, it scatters the light onto a sensor, which triggers the alarm.
Ultra fine dust can mimic this effect by scattering the light in the same way as smoke, which is why dust build-up inside the chamber can cause nuisance alarms. Smoke alarms should be cleaned monthly to prevent this from occurring.
